6 Cool Facts about GMC Yukon Denali

  • As America developed a thing for upscale SUVs, GMC's initial response was a top-of-the-line version of the Yukon, its line of full-size SUVs. The Yukon Denali entered the automotive market scene as a 1999 model. It was slated to compete against the 1998 Lincoln Navigator of Ford, along with other Japanese and German vehicles under the same league.
  • Denali is quite a unique name for a vehicle, and some may wonder where GMC got this nameplate. It's actually a native name for Alaska's Mount McKinley. This nameplate went on to become one of the more successful models under the Yukon lineup.
  • The GMC Yukon Denali's popularity has to do with its lower cost compared to its dolled-up sister, the Cadillac Escalade, which was the GM luxury brand's foremost entry into the booming SUV segment. The Denali remains a good alternative to other luxury full-size SUVs in the market.
  • The GMC Yukon Denali has become a key player in the ever-growing luxury SUV segment. What made it hold on to its popularity is its power to wow spectators and SUV lovers whenever a new model comes out. From time to time, GMC introduces improved styling for both the interior and exterior, giving it a sharper look. The newer versions of the Yukon Denali also have more power and better fuel mileage, with OnStar advanced communication system to boot. The 2013 model, for instance, has chrome accents and wood-grain details for a plush interior. It's equipped with the Bose Surround Sound System and has heated and cooled front seats. You can also say that the exterior is fiercer than ever.
  • The GMC Yukon Denali isn't only a star on the road but also in a couple of TV series and movies. It had been used in a car chase in Bad Boys II and Enemy of the State, along with other action movies. It had also been featured in many scenes of the hit TV series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
  • The GMC Yukon Denali is a hit among celebrities like Matthew McConaughey, who was spotted driving around town in this SUV. Football player Bob Sanders also once owned a customized Denali.

  • Common Troubles with the GMC Yukon Denali 25-Mar-14

The GMC Yukon Denali looks ready to conquer the road, with its large body and tough exterior. But even giants have their own trouble spots. Here are some of the product recalls associated with this full-size SUV:

    Battery cable

In 2001, it was reported that some units of the 2001 GMC Yukon Denali had an issue with a misrouted positive battery cable, which could touch or come close to the steering shaft universal joint. To fix this electrical system glitch, dealers would inspect the cable routing and adjust it if necessary. The part would be replaced in case of conduit wear and cable insulation problem.

    Transmission shift interlock

In 2013, General Motors informed owners of a possible shift interlock system trouble in their vehicles, which include the GMC Yukon Denali. The affected vehicles could have a faulty steering column lock actuator gear or busted park lock cable. As a result, the vehicle may suddenly shift out of park even if the ignition is off. In response to this recall, dealers would make the necessary inspection and, if necessary, would replace the defective parts.

    Rear axle

In 2001, the subject of another recall had been the defective rear axle, which could fail without fair warning. The broken cross pin could make the rear axle freeze, and this would result in reduced vehicle control. Dealers could have a new cross pin installed to fix the problem.

    Headlights

Some combination headlight assemblies from Poli-Auto were recalled in 2006. Apparently, the combination lamps, sold as replacements on some vehicles, didn't have amber side reflectors. They failed to meet the requirements set by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety. Some of the units are from 2001, 2002, and 2003 model years of the Yukon Denali. As a result of this recall, Poli-Auto repurchased the affected headlamps at their original cost.

    Fuel filter connector

In 2006, replacement fuel filters used on some 2005 Yukon Denali units were recalled. They found out that the fuel filter connector wasn't built according to standards set by Honeywell. This may cause the O-ring to be displaced or to fail to seat properly on the fuel line. Honeywell had to replace these fuel filters for free.
