Radiator fan malfunction

Leaking coolant

A leaking radiator is ineffective in cooling down your vehicle on long drives and during hot days. Coolant seeps out from the radiator through small holes usually undetected during visual inspections. You'll know that your radiator is leaking when there is a deposit of coolant outside the radiator. You may also notice that the coolant level in the overflow reservoir is oddly low. In such cases, you need to take out radiator and seal any holes or cracks where coolant might have seeped out. If the radiator is beyond repair, you need to replace it immediately to keep your vehicle from overheating.

Smoke coming from the engine

It's not unusual to see steam coming out from under the hood of a vehicle. However, if the condensation is accompanied by a burning smell, that's a clear indication that your car's radiator is plugged. If you notice a smell similar to engine oil, it's very likely that your car is using old radiator fluid. Letting radiator fluid sit too long in your vehicle can clog up your radiator. It builds up rust and other sediments that block the hoses and fins of your cooling system. Keep your radiator in good condition by replacing the fluid regularly.

High temperature reading

The temperature gauge is helpful in determining whether your vehicle is on the brink of overheating or not. The gauge is found on the dashboard area of your car. When the radiator is not functioning properly, the temperature reading on the gauge will be unusually high. In that case, you need to check under the hood if there is any damage to the radiator.

    Lights flicker on and off

    Several factors could trigger the flickering of headlight bulbs. For one, it could be due to loose-fitting bulbs inside the assembly. If the problem is because of loose bulbs, all you need to do is screw the bulbs tightly into their sockets. Another reason for the sputtering is electrical system problem. You need to check the wiring of the headlight assembly for loose connections and poor power flow. Corrosion on the wires could interrupt the flow of electricity from the battery to the lights.


    Dimming headlights

    Driving with dimmed headlights is hazardous to you and to oncoming motorists. Headlights usually become dim when there is an tug-of-war between the lights and the other electrical systems in your vehicle. Turn off other car systems like the power windows and radio-if the headlights' brightness is restored, that means there is insufficient power directed to the lights. If the headlights remain diffused, check your car's alternator and battery for power. You can use a voltmeter to test if there is adequate power coming from your car's battery.
