CarParts.com, a leading online automotive aftermarket retailer, is proud to announce its participation in Project American Heroes (PAH), a not-for-profit organization that rebuilds classic American muscle cars for auction. All net proceeds from the auction benefit the Armed Forces Foundation, a group that offers direct financial assistance and support to our men and women in uniform.
Last year, PAH rebuilt a 1957 Chevrolet convertible that was auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Palm Beach Florida, netting a $130,000 donation to the Armed Forces Foundation. This year, the PAH team-an expert group of volunteer craftsmen-rebuilt a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS. CarParts.com and other premium-quality parts providers spared no effort or expense to help in restoring this iconic car.
"We're very excited and proud to be part of Project American Heroes 2008," says Steve Chiagouris, General Manager of CarParts.com. "We're pleased to be able to contribute in such a direct way to a rebuild of a classic American car for the benefit of our fighting men and women." To help bring this year's restored classic into the 21st century, CarParts.com supplied a JVC multimedia system incorporating an in-dash high definition tuner/DVD player with Bluetooth phone/audio adapter plus a speaker system.
The "new", fully restored Camaro debuted on August 9 at the Super Chevy Show in Joliet, Illinois. Working under a severe deadline, Bill Jelinek and his dedicated team at Route 66 Motorsports worked long and hard to have the car ready by that date. And it was. Roger Gustin and his AutoStar team had everything in place to present this car in high style. Patricia Driscoll and Doug Stone of the Armed Forces Foundation along with five veterans from the local VA hospital were on hand to celebrate the car's roaring success. CarParts.com congratulates everyone involved in making the day a truly heartwarming and gratifying experience.
The following weekend Wally Olczak of FM3 Performance Marketing offered the Optima Batteries booth at Goodguys Great Lakes Nationals to display the Project American Heroes Camaro. Once again, the car proved to be a very popular attraction. The crowd on hand enthusiastically applauded both the results of the rebuild and the cause it represented. To make a good thing even better, the Camaro won the Goodguys "Best Car on Intros Wheel" award. CarParts.com is proud to be a part of the winning team.
The car is currently undergoing some final touch-ups and fine tuning before it appears at the Goodguys Joliet Show at the end of August. More updates will be forthcoming as show appearances are added and then it's on to the SEMA Show in the Classic Industries booth. After that, there will be numerous other events around the country before the final sale at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in early April.
CarParts.com is happy to support this project on behalf of the Armed Service Foundation and its work with our veterans. We're proud to be a part of such a worthy venture.
