Toyota Tundra Bumper
Maintenance Tips for Toyota Tundra Bumper
The bumper of the Toyota Tundra is designed to endure a lot of abuse, but it still does need maintenance from time to time. The location of the bumpers of the Tundra make it highly exposed to the elements, and over time this could lead to wear. But with regular care and maintenance, the bumpers will retain their top condition and appearance for many years to come.
Here are some helpful tips you can use to maintain your Toyota Tundra bumper:
- Wash the bumper by hand.
Cleaning the bumpers of the Toyota Tundra can be as easy as taking your truck to a drive-in car wash, but we recommend washing the bumpers by hand. Aside from saving you money, cleaning the bumpers by hand allows you to be more thorough in removing dirt and debris from the bumper, especially on hard to reach areas such as near vents, edges, and corners. Make sure to use soft-bristled brushes or sponges as well as cleaning products that do not contain ammonia or other strong chemicals to avoid damaging the paint.
- Deal with scratches by buffing.
Whether it's from a rock kicked up from the trail or a shoddy parking job, scratches are among the common problems encountered with bumpers. And how you will fix these scratches depends on the severity of the damage. Minor scuffs, for instance, might still be remedied by buffing the damaged area using a polishing compound and a car buffer. More severe scratches, particularly those that penetrate the paint and the plastic, will require sanding and filling of the gauged areas with filler. However, if the damage is quite serious that it already compromises the structural integrity of the bumper, it might be better to replace the housing rather than repair it.
- Restore dull black or uncoated bumpers with tire cleaner.
Black matte or uncoated bumpers tend to get dull from constant exposure from the sun, but you can restore it to its original vibrancy with tire cleaner. Simply apply the cleaner onto the bumper with a clean cloth or, in the case of aerosol-based cleaners, spray directly onto the bumper surface. Make sure that the bumper is clean and free of dirt, grease, or car wax before application.
