Several Toyota<\/a> and Lexus<\/a> cars are believed to be adopting the rear-drive platform and inline-six engine currently being used by Mazda, with the first of these models arriving in 2022.<\/p>\n

According to insiders, Toyota is planning to use the said Mazda platform on an upcoming model known to be the successor of its Mark X premium sedan. Lexus, meanwhile, is said to be considering the implementation of these parts on a new coupe that would be positioned between the brand’s RC and LC models.<\/p>\n

Lexus is also reportedly looking to use the platform for a long time, for a new generation of vehicles that would succeed the upcoming Lexus IS and RC.<\/p>\n

In a report to its investors earlier this year, Mazda was revealed to have included plans to develop an inline-six-cylinder engine using its Skyactiv-X technology. It also announced a plan to build a new architecture for large vehicles that would support rear- and all-wheel-drive models.<\/p>\n

These plans fan the flames that Toyota and Mazda might have already reached an agreement to work together.<\/p>\n

The two companies currently have an existing partnership to construct a $1.6 billion factory in Alabama where the new Toyota Corolla and Mazda crossover are set to be built. Additionally, the Yaris Hatchback also bears a striking resemblance to the Mazda 2.<\/p>\n

This means that it would come as no surprise if they once again decide to collaborate on other upcoming models for either or both brands.<\/p>\n
