The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced it is launching a probe on older Chevrolet Cobalt<\/a> cars and HHR<\/a>wagons in the United States due to complaints of fuel leaks. A total of 614,000 vehicles from the 2008 to 2010 model years will be covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The fuel leaks are the result of corrosion of the metal fuel lines underneath the vehicle towards the rear and in the vicinity of the left rear wheel well,” the NHTSA said, citing 208 complaints of fuel leaks from customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the agency, there were no reports of fires or injuries related to fuel leaks. However, it is looking into the scope of the problem in order to assess whether it may cause safety issues for the vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

General Motors said it will cooperate with the NHTSA in the investigation.
