The Chevrolet Camaro is reportedly being discontinued after the 2023 model year, but General Motors has neither confirmed nor denied anything about the news.<\/p>\n

Following the end of production for the sports car’s sixth generation in 2023, a report has surfaced alleging that General Motors will be suspending the Camaro program and shelving the nameplate indefinitely.<\/p>\n

Sources from GM, when asked about the report, instead preferred to provide updates on the upcoming Camaro generation in fall 2019.<\/p>\n

“While we will not engage in speculation, we will remind you of our recently announced updates coming to the Camaro lineup this fall. An all-new T1 model will provide customers V8 power with the design and affordability of our LT trim. The award-winning SS model will feature a new front fascia from the Camaro Shock concept. All of our updates are customer-driven to improve the car and its driving experience,” the company said.<\/p>\n

But if the decision will be based on the Camaro’s performance, the future doesn’t look too bright for the car.<\/p>\n

Deliveries for the model’s current generation have reportedly dropped steadily since it was released in 2016. In the previous year, only 51,000 units were sold, marking the lowest sales year by far since the Camaro was first revived in 2009.<\/p>\n

This year’s figures, meanwhile, are only a tad bit better and experts think the vehicle’s 2019 updates are to blame. Thus, the latest set of changes to the Camaro, which gives the car a more traditional look, is expected to improve sales numbers.<\/p>\n

Other possible reasons for its discontinuation is the fact that the Camaro shares the same chassis with the now-defunct Cadillac ATS and CTS, plus reports that some members of Team Camaro have apparently been sent by General Motors to work on other projects.<\/p>\n

While the company has not officially nailed the coffin on the model, the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro’s performance in the market within the next 12 months could seal the fate of the car.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
