The 2019 Ford Ranger<\/a> tallied remarkable scores in its recent crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While pickup trucks seldom get impressive scores in the assessments, Ford’s newest Ranger finished a full battery of tests with favorable results save for a “Marginal” rating on its headlights that kept the model from getting the Top Safety Pick badge. The only truck that notably performed well in all aspects of the test, including the headlights, was the 2019 Honda Ridgeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ridgeline underwent the same overall crashworthiness tests as the Ranger a few months earlier, where it received a “Good” rating for its headlights, thereby bagging a Top Safety Pick recognition from the IIHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This, however, does not imply that the Ridgeline crashes much better than the Ranger. Simply put, Honda’s mid-size truck just has better headlights than the Ranger. And among its rivals in the truck segment, the 2019 Ford Ranger had better ratings than the Chevrolet Colorado and Nissan Frontier in their respective IIHS tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest Ford Ranger received “Good” ratings in every crash test conducted by the organization except for the passenger-side small overlap test, where it got an “Acceptable” mark like the Toyota Tacoma<\/a> and Honda Ridgeline<\/a> did. During Ford’s front crash prevention test, the Ranger’s system worked wonders and stopped the truck from 12 mph to avoid a collision.
