The subcompact segment may be facing troubles in the United States, especially considering the recent discontinuation of models from various brands such as Toyota, Chevrolet, and Honda. But it’s not the case for Kia<\/a>, which is adding new features and styling updates in the Rio for the 2021 model year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entry-level sedan and hatchback are keeping their place in the lineup for the following year, likely with the same styling and technology as the Rio specifically released in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The complete details of the new Rio are not yet available, but many are expecting it to have the same tweaked front- and rear-end styling as its European counterpart. Modern interior with an upgraded infotainment setup is also expected, different from the current version of the model that has been in the U.S. market since 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On top of the new features and styling updates, interested customers are also giving great attention to the 48-volt hybrid powertrain that debuted on the Europe-spec Rio and the possibility of it making its way to the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American version of the Kia Rio<\/a> is presently equipped with a 1.6-liter inline-four engine that is mated to a continuously variable transmission. It is also likely going to be the same setup for the 2021 Rio sedan and hatchback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S.-spec model is set to begin production later this year. Customers can expect a slight increase in prices, starting at $16,815 for the sedan and $17,455 for the hatchback.
