As more and more automakers are now venturing into electric vehicle territory, Hyundai<\/a> announced it is working on releasing three models under a new brand named Ioniq.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The automaker originally planned to use the nameplate for one vehicle but eventually decided to launch it as a sub-brand exclusive to fully electric vehicles. Three models will be released under the Ioniq name in the next four years: a compact hatchback, a sedan, and an SUV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First on the list is the Ioniq 5 model scheduled for release in early 2021. It’s a compact hatchback that will be based on the Hyundai 45 concept, which is known for its sharp exterior lines and traditional front grille. When Hyundai first introduced the concept, it drew attention for its simple interior, seats made out of light wood, and the lack of door handles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The models from the Ioniq brand are going to be part of Hyundai Motor Group’s bigger plan to sell one million electric vehicles by the year 2025.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The Ioniq 6 sedan will follow in 2022. It will be based on the Hyundai Prophecy concept that is known to look like the fusion of the Tesla Model S and Porsche 911 with rounded lines and a bubble-shaped cabin. The interior remains to be a surprise as Hyundai has not released photos of its interior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In early 2024, the Ioniq 7 will be scheduled for release. It is said to be an SUV, but details are not yet available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hyundai said the vehicles that will be launched under the Ioniq brand will ride on its Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The platform will likely include other models in various shapes and sizes similar to the plans previously announced by Volkswagen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
