A total of 160,229 Ram 1500<\/a> trucks from the 2019 and 2020 model years are being recalled by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in the United States, Canada, and Mexico for having mats that could interfere with the vehicle’s accelerator pedal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As it is adjustable, the automaker said it’s possible for the pedal to have little clearance from the all-season floor mats, causing them to come into contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recall was issued after the company concluded its investigation into the matter, following a complaint from a customer regarding his floor mat interfering with the pedal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FCA clarified that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries that may have been caused by the problem. Too, FCA claimed that only an estimated 1% of the affected Ram 1500 units may have an issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked what it meant by interference, a spokesperson for the company told online publication Car and Driver: “The floor mat has ribs. The pedals are adjustable. When the pedal is set at certain positions, there may be interference with some mats.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the all-weather floor mats equipped in Ram 1500 trucks, 43,148 mats sold as optional add-ons are also affected by the recall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To fix the problem, the automaker is advising customers with Ram 1500s that have all-season mats to bring their vehicles to a local dealer where the mats will be modified. For those who are unable to visit a dealer, FCA recommends removing the mats in the meantime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unusual as it may seem, FCA is not the first automaker to recall vehicles due to poorly made floor mats. In 2009, Toyota also recalled 3.8 million vehicles for the same problem.
