Shortly after the official debut of the new Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai’s sibling brand, Kia, gave an update on another refreshed model: the Kia Sportage<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kia’s compact crossover may have received a slight update for 2020, but, according to Korean Car Blog, there is more in store for the model’s fifth generation. The new Sportage is scheduled to debut in Korea in April 2021; meaning, the US-spec model will likely arrive at dealerships sometime in late 2021 as part of the 2022 model lineup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Kia’s decision to shift into an alphanumeric naming convention earlier this year, the latest Sportage is reportedly going to be referred to as the NQ5. And while everything is still in developmental phase, Korean Car Blog claims the crossover will carry a new design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It could be in the same vein as the recent changes in the Hyundai Tucson, whose styling was heavily based on the Vision T Concept. But which concept will the Sportage be patterned on? Kia<\/a> is set to unveil it soon, according to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the publication said the Sportage was supposed to debut earlier than April 2021. However, design changes caused a delay in its development, pushing back the launch to spring next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The model will likely be offered with two wheelbase options in Korea, with the longer one having additional legroom in the back. At this point, it’s unclear whether both options will make it to America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of mechanical specs, the Sportage could share a few similarities with the Hyundai Tucson, which includes a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 190 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More details are expected to be released in the coming months before the all-new Sportage debuts in Korea.
