It has been a decade since Jeep<\/a> gave the Grand Cherokee a major redesign. So when the automaker announced an all-new version of the model will be arriving in 2022, loyal fans of the nameplate couldn’t be more thrilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fast forward to a couple of months later, a camouflaged prototype of the Grand Cherokee was spotted in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This suggests that the popular SUV’s official launch is just around the corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aside from the two-row version, the overhauled Grand Cherokee was also revealed to be getting a three-row variant, which is believed to be the same model spotted doing a test drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crossover is expected to launch sometime at the end of this year, with the first batch of units likely to arrive at dealerships in early 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming Grand Cherokee will have a slightly longer wheelbase than the current generation. It is also reportedly riding a version of the Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform. Both the two- and three-row version of the SUV will have more interior and cargo space as well as an elongated hood and a larger rear end. The three-row model, however, will share a few similarities with the Dodge Durango, particularly in its proportions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since it’s a complete redesign, significant changes to the interior styling are also due. While it may not be as extravagant as the Grand Wagoneer concept, the new Grand Cherokee is expected to be more luxurious and better equipped than its predecessor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some changes for the SUV may include a larger touchscreen, a rotary knob, digital gauges, and a suite of driver-assistance technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With regard to the powertrain, Jeep’s turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four could be the base engine for the two-row model, with hybrid assistance also not a far-fetched idea. As for the three-row model’s base engine, a Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 with eTorque assist is being considered as a frontrunner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
