GMC<\/a> is gearing up for the arrival of the Sierra 1500 for the 2022 model year, complete with an updated overall design. But more than the new styling, the model is also drumming up interest for being the second truck in the automaker’s lineup to get General Motors’ Super Cruise technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Super Cruise is a hands-free advanced driver-assist system that comes with an automated highway lane-change assist. It was first incorporated in the 2022 Hummer EV pickup, which is scheduled to arrive sometime next fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GMC Sierra 1500’s Super Cruise system will be offered on the range-topping Denali trim and is reported to have a new function that allows drivers to operate the vehicle hands-free while towing a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a GMC spokesperson, this new feature will be exclusive on the Sierra 1500 and will not be available on the Hummer EV pick-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GM’s Super Cruise technology can be operated on more than 200,000 miles of roads across the United States and Canada. It also allows drivers to use the automated lane-change function using only the vehicle’s turn-signal stalk. A similar system can be found on BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Tesla models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the GM portfolio, the Super Cruise system is being expanded to several vehicles, including the Cadillac CT4, CT5, CT6, and Escalade, as well as Chevrolet’s 2022 Bolt EUV (the first Chevy model to get the system).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The update on the GMC Sierra 1500<\/a> was originally scheduled for 2021 but was delayed for another year due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on its production.
