Honda Motor Co is having another round of dealer markup for its Civic Type R ahead of the usual model-year adjustment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2019 Civic Type R went up by as much as $635 and what started under $35,000 is now priced more than $37,000 for the latest generation beginning July 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From its initial price of $34,775 for a base model in 2017, Honda<\/a> has given the model a $2,455 price increase in just a little over two model years. Save for a new color and a volume knob, the model did not get any other significant upgrades in the last couple of years, making it harder for consumers to find justification to buy a model that only offers one Touring trim level option. Mechanics-wise, nothing has changed for the Type R as it still runs on a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four mated to a six-speed manual transmission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One reason behind the steadily raising price is the increase in Honda’s destination charge. As part of its pricing update, the previous price of $895 went up to $930.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Price markups aside, the Type R still remains a great choice versus its direct competitors in the market such as the 2019 Volkswagen Golf R, which is offered at a base price of $41,290, and the 2019 Subaru WRX<\/a>STR, which is priced at $37,480. But if consumers really want a less expensive option, the 2020 Hyundai Veloster N is worth looking at with its optional Performance package and base price of $30,430.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to reports, the Type R is constantly getting markups because of the market demand when it was first introduced. But now that potential customers are starting to consider turning their back on the model, Honda is rumored to introduce a lower-cost trim level for the model in the future.
