Time and again, automakers announce an upcoming redesign for their models in an effort to give them a fresh look and a host of new technologies or accessories. Honda<\/a> is no exception. Over the years, the brand had its fair share of redesigns for its cars such as the Civic, Accord, and CR-V.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seemingly lost in the fray, though, is the HR-V crossover, whose current version has not been updated since 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This 2021, the automaker is finally giving the small SUV its long-overdue redesign. A prototype was spotted testing in Europe and spy photos have started circulating online. Based on the pictures, the SUV will get a chunkier body and a more modern look than its current version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The redesign is expected to make Honda’s compact SUV more competitive amid tough market rivals in the form of the Mazda CX-30 and Kia Seltos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not much is known about the new HR-V, but it is expected to keep the same platform that also underpins the Honda Fit hatchback, which has been discontinued in the United States. It will also likely feature the automaker’s updated infotainment system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of powertrain options, a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four that delivers up to 185 horsepower is most likely to power the car. Other possible choices include a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four and a hybrid drivetrain like the one powering the Honda Insight. Front-wheel-drive and a continuously variable transmission are expected to be standard equipment, too, while an all-wheel-drive will likely be offered as an option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering a prototype is now testing, the redesigned Honda HR-V<\/a> could be available sometime in 2021. The global version will precede the US model; meaning, it could reach American shores by the end of this year or early 2022.
