2022 will be a year of new model launches for Mazda<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the hardest hit automotive brands due to the coronavirus pandemic, the automaker is staring at a projected $870 million loss with its global sales expected to slide by as much as 8% at the end of its fiscal year this March. This amount is significant for any company, but more so for a relatively small player like Mazda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an effort to lessen the impact of the financial losses, Mazda is working hard to build new models that will launch in the next model year. This includes SUVs and a couple of other models meant to replace the CX-5 and the CX-8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming vehicles will reportedly ride the brand’s yet-to-be-released rear-wheel-drive platform, which will focus on a sporty setup that’s equipped with Skyactiv-X gasoline and diesel engines. The powertrain options are likely to be of the inline-six variety with a capacity of 3 to 3.3 liters. Mild-hybrid technology is also on the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to supplier companies working closely with the automaker, the new SUVs will likely be scheduled for unveiling sometime in 2022. Makers of automotive parts, meanwhile, are reportedly set to provide components for about 300,000 vehicles, which account for roughly 20% of Mazda’s global sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, rear-wheel-drives will not be the sole offering of the brand. The automaker is also believed to be packing its vehicles with six-cylinder powertrains. More specifically, Mazda’s version of the famous Wankel rotary engine. While yet to be confirmed, it will likely be for the MX-30 electric utility vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
