One of GMC<\/a>‘s most innovative products in 2019 was the MultiPro tailgate from General Motors. Back then, it was offered as a standard accessory for higher trim levels of the GMC Sierra: SLT, AT4, and Denali. But it looks like the company has seen bigger value on the product that it is now expanding its availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renamed as the MultiFlex tailgate, it is now available for the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado and as standard issue on the SLE and Elevation trims of the 2021 GMC Sierra as well. In short, the tailgate will come straight out of the factory on all variants of the Sierra except for the entry-level model. For owners of the base Sierra, the tailgate can be availed for an additional $595.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision came as no surprise because, since its launch in 2019, the tailgate has been popular among Sierra customers. It is, in fact, a smart move given that the brand wants an edge over it’s high-selling competitor, the Ford F-150.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the expanded list of standard equipment also means a price hike for the 2021 GMC Sierra. Entry-level and SLT trims of the pickup truck are now $400 more expensive than the previous model year. The Denali trim also gets a $500 increase, while the AT4 trim’s starting price is $600 higher. The price increase is more significant on the Elevation trim at $900, as well as the SLE trim at $1,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GMC MultiPro tailgate is operated by a touchpad, key fob, or a button installed on the truck bed. It comes with six different configurations and can also be opened and closed like the traditional tailgate. There is also an option to use the two aluminum panels as a load stop, a standing workstation, or as a step stool for easier access to the bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
