The once-popular Ford Fusion has struggled in the mid-size crossover segment as of late amid the continuous arrival of strong competitors. And it looks like the model is on the brink of being another crossover collateral like its siblings, Fiesta, Focus, and Taurus. But among these models, it appears that Fusion has a better chance of getting a revival from the brand.<\/p>\n

Ford Europe is reportedly working on a “radical” remodeling of its family car lineup, which includes Mondeo (the EU version of the Fusion), and two other Europe-exclusive models, S-Max and Galaxy.<\/p>\n

The plan is to combine all three vehicles into a single crossover-wagon-like model, much like the Subaru Outback. In the United States, the Outback has shown immense success with sales reaching more than 20,000 units annually.<\/p>\n

The Subaru Outback offers a standard all-wheel drive and comes with a kind of styling that is common among SUVs, which could very well be one of the reasons behind its success.<\/p>\n

The new crossover-wagon being developed by Ford is rumored to be adopting the Fusion nameplate and will arrive in the market in 2021. It will be built on the brand’s C2 platform, which also underpins the Ford Focus and the next-generation Edge and Fiesta.<\/p>\n

The C2 platform is seen as a more flexible platform, meaning it can be stretched and shortened as Ford sees necessary.<\/p>\n

Now if the new model is truly taking on the Fusion nameplate, is it going to be released in North America as well? It’s highly likely, although Ford has not confirmed anything so far.
