The 2019 Ford Ranger recently underwent a series of crashworthiness tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Unfortunately for the model, it failed to get the Top Safety Pick award from the organization.<\/p>\n

But that’s not to say it’s not safe to ride the 2019 Ford Ranger. In fact, the model received the highest rating of “Good” in all but two categories it tested for.<\/p>\n

The 2019 Ford Ranger is available in two cab styles, but the IIHS tests it underwent are only for the crew can configuration.<\/p>\n

The model earned an “Acceptable” rating on the passenger side small overlap test and a “Marginal” rating on the headlights test, which disqualified it from getting the Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ award.<\/p>\n

An IIHS Top Safety Pick+ required to get at least a “Good” score across all categories, while the Top Safety Pick award requires a “Good” rating on all categories except for the headlights and the passenger side front small overlap test where “Acceptable” is also accepted.<\/p>\n

While the 2019 Ford Ranger failed to get a Top Safety Pick recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) after its crashworthiness tests, it did receive the highest rating of “Good” in all but two categories it tested for.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In the 2019 Ford Ranger’s front crash prevention test, it earned a “Superior” rating. The truck managed to avoid a 12-mph collision and reduce the speed from 25-mph down to 24-mph thanks to its standard forward collision warning automatic emergency braking.<\/p>\n

The 2019 Ford Ranger is powered by a 2.3-liter turbo-four engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It is offered in a standard rear-wheel drive while a four-wheel drive is optional on all trims.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Honda Ridgeline is the only truck model to get the IIHS Top Safety Pick award, although it also missed the Top Safety Pick+ recognition because of an “Acceptable” rating on the passenger side front small overlap test.
