There’s a reason why regulators test and inspect a car’s overall safety and crash-worthiness. It gives consumers an idea which brands put a premium on safety and which models are only great for their visuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manufacturers are well aware of this, which explains why they put in the work to earn highly-coveted safety recognitions from the likes of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is why it appears as a shocker for everyone when the 2021 Nissan Rogue<\/a> had a dismal showing during its recent crash tests with the NHTSA. Out of the total five stars, the model only managed to score two stars in the front-passenger crash test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering that the refreshed Rogue is a new car, scoring two stars for a crash test spells bad news despite earning an average of four stars overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s unclear why exactly the model delivered poor results, but there are claims it could be due to the recent change in Nissan’s front passenger restraint systems, particularly for vehicles built after January 28. However, the automaker clarified that the test scores reflect those built before the said date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Nissan is committed to vehicle safety and is pleased with the 2021 Nissan Rogue’s overall four-star NCAP safety rating,” a representative for the company shared in a statement. “All 2021 Rogue vehicles fully comply with federal safety standards.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NHTSA said it will conduct another test on the Rogue with its updated restraint systems, so it’s possible its performance will improve when results come out in May.
