The Land Cruiser<\/a> has been part of Toyota’s American lineup since 1957 and saying it is iconic is an understatement. The SUV has proven to be a reliable off-roader for the automaker, catering to customers who prefer a rugged-looking vehicle with comfort and ride quality as top priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, Toyota was not successful in maximizing the Land Cruiser for what it offers, translating to low sales and poor market performance. And like any other low-performing model in the market, the Land Cruiser is rumored to be discontinued by 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although there is no solid basis for the rumor, Toyota seems to be fanning the flames with its response when asked about the buzz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Toyota Land Cruiser has not received a major update except for a refresh in 2008.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

“Land Cruiser is a global icon that embodies Toyota’s reputation for reliability, durability and capability. Although we cannot comment on future product, we can confirm that no decision has been made to stop sales of the Land Cruiser in the U.S. at this time,” Toyota Product Communications Analyst Josh Burns said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It appears that Burns’ use of “at this time” in his response indicates that there is a likelihood for Toyota to consider discontinuing the crossover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It would not be surprising, though, if Toyota decides to kill its aging model in the U.S., considering that it has not received a major update except for a refresh in 2008. Aside from its age and lack of new tech, the Land Cruiser is also expensive compared to its regularly refurbished rivals, which is why Toyota is also selling a few hundred units each month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But, of course, until Toyota<\/a> says so, the Land Cruiser will continue to be sold in America and loyalists have nothing to worry about–for now.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
