Following an eight-year hiatus, Ford reintroduced its Ranger<\/a>model in the United States in 2019, sporting a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. And although it still feels fairly new, the current American generation is something that’s already been circulating in other foreign markets since it was upgraded in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the coming model year, the automaker is reportedly working on equipping the Ranger with a new powertrain. According to Which Car in Australia, the model is due for a new engine, which is also likely to reach the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two new powertrains are said to be in the works with one being a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 Powerstroke diesel and the other a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter gasoline-powered V6 engine. Both engines are seen as great additions to the light truck; however, the 2.7-liter V6 is drawing more attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current 2.3-liter engine powering the Ford Ranger makes 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. While it’s more than enough for a truck of its size, a 2.7-liter engine making 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque can still be a great addition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 engine is used in the Ford F-150<\/a> truck. With those pretty numbers, it’s no surprise the F-150 is among America’s bestselling vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The introduction of new engines could also boost sales of the Ranger, which has been slowing signs of aging in its segment. Alongside an updated bodywork, the new powertrains could position the model among the most competitive on the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
