Ram’s woes keep piling up as almost 700,000 more units of its 1500 truck are due for a recall over the brand’s ongoing tailgate issue.<\/p>\n

The recall was first announced by the company in 2018 to cover 1.1 million units of the model. In May of this year, the number ballooned to include another 410,000 trucks prior to the most recent of 694,181 models.<\/p>\n

Ram filed the recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, affecting the Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups with build dates between the 2013 and 2018 model years, the same models that were included in the previous two filings with the institution.<\/p>\n

The trucks involved in the issue are those with power-locking tailgates. However, the recall covers the short, medium, and long-bed variants, hence the number of units affected.<\/p>\n

Based on previous documents filed with NHTSA, it was discovered that there is a possibility for the tailgate’s locking mechanism to break, allowing it to open and spill contents into the road. These potential obstacles pose a risk for other drivers. With a properly functioning tailgate assembly, Ram said there will be no problems securing all loose cargo in the vehicle.<\/p>\n

To fix the issue, Ram instructs owners to bring their trucks into a dealership so technicians can inspect the trucks’ tailgate assemblies. If necessary, they will replace the tailgate latch at no cost to customers. Parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles also wants owners to go through the company’s reimbursement process if they had their tailgates fixed outside the warranty period and prior to the recall.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
