With more and more automakers venturing into the electric vehicle segment, Mazda recently joined the party after launching its first production EV at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.<\/p>\n

Introduced as the MX-30, the tall hatchback crossover pays tribute to its corporate crossover siblings like the CX-5 through the similar-looking front fascia. But what sets it apart from other SUVs in Mazda’s lineup is the fast roofline that suggests a sporty vibe. It also sports two suicide doors that allow access to the rear seats, a deviation from the usual four-door setup seen on the Mazda RX-8 sports car.<\/p>\n

The front and rear doors of the five-seater crossover can open up to 82 degrees and 80 degrees, respectively, making it easier for passengers to get in and out of the car.<\/p>\n

The interior, meanwhile, features a gauge cluster and dashboard with simple design, while a 7-inch touchscreen sits underneath where the climate controls are located. The screen is placed on a floating console that also comes with storage space and houses the electronic gear shifter and control knob.<\/p>\n

Mazda was going for a nature-friendly theme with the electric vehicle, which explains the use of cork for the center console and the soft fabric made from recycled bottles lining the interior.<\/p>\n

The MX-30 is powered by a 35.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, but the output numbers and estimated electric driving range are yet to be released. What’s confirmed so far, though, is that both Level 1 and Level 2 charging options are available for the model, as well as a combination-spec DC fast-charger.<\/p>\n

It is also equipped with what Mazda refers to as the e-Skyactiv powertrain for regenerative braking, along with the G-Vectoring Control that helps manager side-to-side motions of the vehicle. The brand’s i-Activsense safety suite will also come as standard. The full suite includes the company’s latest technology on lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian, and nighttime and bicycle detection.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
