Drumming up excitement—and exclusivity—for the new Mustang<\/a> Mach-E, Ford released an update announcing the company is planning to build only 50,000 units of the electric SUV in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the automaker is gearing up for a new era with the arrival of the SUV, Ford President of Automotive Joe Hinrichs, in a recent tweet, was quoted by Ian Thibodeau of the Detroit News, saying only 50,000 Mustang Mach-E models will be in production for its first year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company confirmed the report in a statement: “We project that sales volumes will be limited to about 50,000 globally the first year due to battery supply.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While 50,000 units for an entire production year does not seem a lot for traditional vehicles, Ford appears to have a good reason for limiting the number of Mach-E SUVs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Truly, building an electric car won’t be possible without a sufficient supply of batteries—and it looks like this could be a potential problem in the future as more automakers venture into electric car production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately for Ford<\/a>, even if it sells only 50,000 models of the Mustang Mach-E for the coming model year, it will still have enough sales to overtake Chevrolet Bolt EV’s best sales year with 23,000 in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Production for the Mustang Mach-E is set to begin next year with the first batch of vehicles being called the Mustang Mach-E First Editions. Ford remains mum how many First Editions it will build in 2020, but the company says it will be “very limited.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the release of the First Editions, Ford will be launching mother variants of the highly anticipated electric SUV, including the Premium trim, Select trim, California Route 1, and GT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Premium model is reportedly going on sale with a $51,700 price tag, inclusive of the destination charge. The First Edition models are marked at $61,000, while the entry-level Select will arrive in 2021 at $44,995.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
