The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has added another Top Safety Pick to its roster: the 2020 Jeep Renegade<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The subcompact crossover scored a Good rating in all but one crash test and earned an Acceptable mark in the small-overlap passenger-side test. Had the model scored anything lower than Acceptable, it would have missed the Top Safety Pick recognition.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

The rating makes the new Jeep Renegade the least expensive version of the model at $28,955 for an Altitude trim with a front-wheel-drive setup.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n

However, other features of the Renegade that earned it the award are all optional equipment. Meaning, consumers may have to pay more to get premium safety equipment. This includes the optional frontal-crash prevention technology that reaped a Superior rating from the institute. When tested for 12 mph and 25 mph speed, the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking avoided a collision.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The headlights, which are commonly the dealbreaker for other vehicles in getting the Top Safety Pick nod, are also, unfortunately, optional. To get premium Renegade headlights, consumers would have to get their hands on any of the Latitude, Altitude, Limited, or High Altitude trims. The first three variants require the LED lighting group as well as an advanced technology package, while the High Altitude trim only need the latter.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The optional headlights that are only offered in higher trim levels scored an Acceptable rating, while the headlights on the lower trim levels, featuring only the LED lighting group, received a Marginal mark. Models running on the basic halogen reflectors scored a dismal Poor rating.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
