What once seemed to be a farfetched idea is slowly becoming a reality as Ford takes a step towards developing its very first electric pickup truck.<\/p>\n

But aside from having an electric powertrain, the automaker is also making a revolutionary change by giving the truck a front trunk, or what others now call a “frunk,” to maximize cargo space.<\/p>\n

In a recently  published report, Ford was revealed to have filed a patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The documents, which include basic images showing the frunk, were reportedly filed in October 2018 despite only being published last month.<\/p>\n

Judging by the images, owners of the electric F-150 would no longer need to open the hood of their trucks. Instead, they can easily access the interior through the grille, which can open and provide a gateway to the cargo area.<\/p>\n

The patent application also suggests that the inside of the cabin will have two bins and plenty of lights. The first bin is designed so it can swing out to the right and provide access to the rearmost bin in the cabin.<\/p>\n

Details from the patent application are considerably tiny bits of information on what could very well be a landmark product for Ford. But given the F-150’s reputation in the market, it wouldn’t be surprising if the company does end up making another iconic truck. However, an electric F-150 is still a long way to go as gearing it for zero-emission duty is no small task, more so since it’s living up to the F-150 name.<\/p>\n

More information about the electric F-150 is expected to come out in the succeeding months before the actual truck is unveiled sometime in 2021.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
