At least three Jeep models will have plug-in hybrid versions coming this year and the automaker just announced what the lineup will be called—4xe..<\/p>\n

The new 4xe badge will include hybrid versions of the Wrangler, Renegade, and Compass, all of which are set to be revealed within the year. According to the company, the badge will also be applied to future electrified SUVs as part of its goal to give every model in its lineup a hybrid powertrain by 2022.<\/p>\n

But while Jeep has not announced when the models will go on sale in the United States, plug-in versions of the Renegade and Compass were already confirmed for the Europe market. Both hybrids will produce a total of 240 horsepower from a turbocharged 1.3-liter inline-four gasoline engine combined with an electric motor.<\/p>\n

A prototype for the Wrangler PHEV was previously spotted while on a test-drive, with a covered-up charging port confirming the arrival of an electrified powertrain. The Wrangler PHEV is expected to have a larger battery pack and electric motor that will give it an all-electric driving range and make the model an alternative to the current Wrangler’s eTorque hybrid powertrain option.<\/p>\n

It’s not yet certain how these specifications will be changed once the models are released in the U.S. market, but Jeep said it will release more details about the 4xe models at this year’s auto shows in Geneva, New York, and Beijing.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
