Following the updates on the regular Civic and its Si variant for the 2020 model year, Honda announced it will also be giving the revised Type R a refresh.<\/p>\n

The automaker officially introduced the model at the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan, where the hot hatch showcased mild design tweaks. For the new version of the car, Honda put more emphasis on improving the aerodynamics to make the body sleeker than its previous generation.<\/p>\n

The styling updates made on the Type R are consistent with the design changes applied to other models in the range. However, for the 2020 model year, the Type R also carries a couple of new features.<\/p>\n

Among these is the slightly larger front grille that allows the engine to breathe better, as well as a Boost Blue paint color exclusive to the Type R.<\/p>\n

A few mechanical changes are also included in the mid-cycle facelift. Honda installed the car newly developed two-piece brake rotors paired with updated brake pads that are specifically designed to reduce fade and boost its stopping power even at high speeds. The 2020 Civic Type R is also equipped with a modified suspension that includes optimized dampers to increase comfort while driving.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Honda’s engineers worked on a stiffer set of rear bushings for improved grip, while the front suspension was modified to reduce friction and make the steering feel more direct.<\/p>\n

For the interior, Honda gave the hatchback a new steering wheel covered in Alcantara. The United States version of the car also includes safety and driver assistance systems that will come as standard equipment, marking the first time that the Honda System feature is offered as standard equipment in the entire Civic lineup.<\/p>\n

The 2020 Honda Civic Type R is still powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine that makes 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It also has a six-speed close-ratio manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It is available in three trim levels—Comfort, Sport, and +R.<\/p>\n
