Subaru is giving the “EV revolution” a whole new meaning as the Japanese automaker announced it is aiming to sell nothing but electric vehicles by mid-2030.<\/p>\n

The company only has a few electrified models currently on sale globally such as the Crosstrek Hybrid in the United States and the Forester e-Box in Europe. But it is working towards an ambitious goal for the next two decades.<\/p>\n

First on the list, according to a report from Reuters, is a so-called “strong hybrid” vehicle that will use technologies from Toyota. The model is expected to arrive later this decade and is said to feature a patented symmetrical all-wheel-drive.<\/p>\n

Although using Toyota technology, Subaru intends to make hybrids that are distinctly their own.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Subaru is optimistic the hybrid model will help the company reach its goal of selling at least 40 percent all-electric and electrified cars by the year 2030.<\/p>\n

“Although we’re using Toyota technology, we want to make hybrids that are distinctly Subaru,” said Chief Technology Officer Tetsuo Onuki. “It’s not only about reducing CO2 emissions. We need to further improve vehicle safety and the performance of our all-wheel drive.”<\/p>\n

An all-electric vehicle is also reportedly under development, as confirmed through an official press release. Subaru has apparently released the first sketches of the model, which will take the form of a crossover. Consistent with the automaker’s electrification plans, it will begin selling only electric vehicles starting in the first half of 2030.<\/p>\n
