More than 36,000 units of the 2016 Mazda CX-5<\/a> are at risk of getting recalled due to malfunctioning LED lights that could either flicker or fail without warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mazda has filed a recall notification with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, stating that about 36,761 CX-5 crossovers in the United States could be equipped with defective LED daytime running lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mazda is arranging a fix for the problem but has yet to issue a recall instruction pending NHTSA’s response to its notification <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

According to the company, the problem was caused by the use of “inappropriate” materials for the sealing gasket attached to the wiring connector of the LED daytime running lights. This can cause the gasket to release sulfur that can corrode the LED circuit that controls the lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, the lights would flicker or fail to illuminate in one or both of the front daytime running lights without warning. This makes it difficult for other drivers and pedestrians to see the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No reports of accidents or injuries related to the problem have been reported so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
