\nA total of 44,191 vehicles from the 2019 and 2020 model years are being recalled by Toyota due to reports of engine cracks in select models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Affected by the recall are the Toyota Camry, Avalon, RAV4, and Lexus ES300H vehicles, including hybrid versions, with build dates between September and December 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A majority of the vehicles being recalled (36,920) are 2019 and 2020 RAV4 crossovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a report filed by the Japanese automaker with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem is found to be caused by the 2.5-liter inline-four engine, where cracks could form and could lead to coolant or oil leaks and stalling, overheating, or engine fires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issue was discovered when a flow meter that supposedly regulates the casting of engines failed, potentially causing some engines to not cool properly. As a result, there could be engine noise, engine smoke, warning lights, and\/or engine overheating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement published by the NHTSA, Toyota estimates about 250 vehicles to have problematic engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To fix the problem, owners of the vehicles in question are advised to bring their cars to a nearby dealership. Dealers will check the serial number on the engine to determine whether the engine is part of the affected batch. If found potentially defective, it will be replaced, including the engine block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
