Several automotive brands in the United States are making adjustments to their production schedules in lieu of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic that’s currently sweeping the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

General Motors, Ford, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles are all working together with the United Auto Workers union to create a specific task force that would aid in meeting the unique challenges brought by the novel coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All four parties declared in a statement that they will work together in taking on measures that will protect workers and identify potential COVID-19 cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This is a fluid and unprecedented situation, and the task force will move quickly to build on the wide-ranging preventive measures we have put in place,” the combined statement said. “We are all coming together to help keep our workforces safe and healthy.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, a representative from GM also shared that the company will adjust production schedules and cut overtime hours to give way to additional cleaning and enhanced disinfecting procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The representative also noted that procedures will vary in every facility and that there are some plants that have been running at maximum overtime for months. GM, however, insisted that it does not expect a “major” impact on the overall production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for FCA, the company said it will “communicate additional details as they become available.” Ford, on the other hand, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All three automakers agreed they will be enhancing social distancing as workers continue their jobs, with each committing to implement health and safety education as well as screenings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Specifically, GM said it will offer COVID-19 lab testing and treatment plans to its workers. The company also said it will work with its medical unit to isolate suspected cases “when necessary” and that it will provide disinfecting cloth that workers can use to clean their hands, tools, and work surfaces.
