Ford<\/a> is reportedly working on a small pickup truck to be released sometime in the next few years and it looks like the model will be called the Maverick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fast Lane Truck website recently posted a CAD image of a tailgate that shows the name “Maverick” on the back and with a Ford badge likely to be added below the tailgate handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While there has not been any confirmation from Ford about the image and the likelihood that the tailgate image belongs to a model from their lineup, it can be recalled that the automaker previously applied for a trademark on the name. But what was initially thought to be the nameplate for the highly anticipated Bronco Sport turns out to be for a different model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The image was also shared in a General Motors fan forum where a user published information that is claimed to be for the Maverick. The details are only rumors, but they seem consistent with earlier reports saying the model will be tied to a small crossover program that will replace the mediocre Ford Ecosport<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming crossover and the truck will reportedly ride on Ford’s C2 platform, which underpins smaller Ford crossovers as well as the Transit Connect and the new Focus that is not available in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the new Ford pickup is not expected to be one of the super-tough types that are meant for off-roading. It is also expected to be powered by small displacement engines such as a 1.5-liter inline-three engine or a 2.5-liter inline-four with hybrid gear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if word from Ford dealers turns out to be true, the truck will be offered as an affordable option to customers. The crossover and pickup models are projected to give consumers additional options if they don’t wish to spend $25,000 for an Escape or Ranger.
