Following Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’s announcement that it will reopen its plants and resume production, General Motors also shared its final date for work resumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As several states begin to ease lockdown restrictions in the United States, GM said it will open its doors again on May 18, the same day that FCA workers return to factories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GM said it is looking to reopen “the majority of manufacturing operations” in the U.S and Canada. The automaker also said it will bank on recent experience in building ventilators and medical equipment in the last couple of months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the announcement, GM is the second of the Detroit Big Three to bare plans of producing cars once again. Meanwhile, Ford<\/a> shared it will continue to monitor the situation before finalizing its return-to-work date for employees and factory workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All three companies temporarily stopped production in North America on March 18 as part of their efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus. While car manufacturing operations were on pause, each of the automakers went on to produce medical equipment such as ventilators and protective equipment to aid the medical community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GM resuming its operations means progress for the automaker’s upcoming vehicles. The company announced delays in some of its products<\/a>, particularly from the Chevrolet and GMC marques, but maintains that a few others will push through according to plan, including the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq sedan.
