Chevrolet Silverado Grille Assembly
The grill, or grille, is the opening in front of most vehicles that allow air to pass through it. A typical grille has a variety of functions. First, it allows air to flow over the radiator and cool the entire engine compartment. But while allowing air to pass through, the gratings that cover it prevents water, road debris and other damaging elements from penetrating into the engine compartment. Thus, the grille also help protect the radiator, the turbo intercooler (if the vehicle is equipped with a turbocharger), and other engine components from too much damage.
Aside from the two aforementioned functions, the grille has yet another role and that is to serve as a distinctive styling element for a vehicle. Most auto manufacturers would include their company logo on their vehicles' grilles while others would even trademark a grille design so that the component itself will serve as their primary brand identifier. As for the Chevrolet Silverado, all trim levels except the SS are equipped with gray surround grilles with chrome center bar. The Chevrolet Silverado SS, the vehicle model's sports trim, is equipped with a color-keyed grille. On either grille design, a Chevrolet golden bowtie emblem is mounted on the middle.
The stock Chevy Silverado grille already serves its purpose well, and that is to make the Chevrolet Silverado's style stand out in the competitive full-size pickup market. Equipping the truck with custom grilles, however, can make it look more distinct and even more stylish. Custom Chevrolet Silverado grills are widely available today especially if you try to find them using the Internet. These grilles would also usually come with billet or body color grille inserts that can easily set your truck apart from most other vehicles on the road.
