The Ford Aerostar has been one of the most favorite family vans in the United States since 1986. With its ample space and excellent features, everyone in the family can have a very comfortable ride. One of the Aerostar's components that provides you real comfort is the air conditioner. The a/c sets the right amount of temperature inside your van. But this won't function properly without the heater valve. This valve is the one responsible in dissipating heat inside the vehicle's cooling system. There are several causes why the heater valve fails. Here are some tips that can help you find out why your valve suddenly stopped working.
It feels uncomfortable when the temperature inside your van is high even if you have already put the blower control to maximum. When this happens, it's possible that your Ford Aerostar heater valve is stuck open. If you want to check its condition, access your heater valve from the dashboard. Look for a device that appears like a small knob. Try to turn it to the left. If you can't move it, then the valve is stuck and must be replaced ASAP.
The heater valve works with the radiator and the coolant in dispersing heat from the engine. The heater valve redirects some of the engine heat back into the car. When this component is damaged, your Aerostar's heater won't give off enough heat. In diagnosing this particular problem, you must check the valve for coolant leaks. You need to look closely at the valve and feel the opening of the knob to verify if there's coolant spilling from it. Examine the radiator too. You may experience the same problem if the radiator is severely damaged.
The heater and the cooler in your Aerostar work using the same set of components. That's why it's possible for both devices to stop functioning all at once. In this case, check not just the heater valve but the other components too. Usually, a blown fuse is the major reason why the heater and the a/c don't turn on. You'll know that the fuse is broken once the ceramic part turns black. This fuse must be replaced to bring back the normal operation of your cooling system.
