Ford Fuel Tank

The continuing advancement in technology has brought many changes to the structure of today's automobiles. While vehicles of yesteryears were equipped with extremely large and unrefined engines, new vehicles are equipped with smaller engines that produces more power at a refinement level way above the engines of the past. The changes are also visible on various other parts of a vehicle, like improved suspension systems, drive train systems, power train systems and other parts, including the various amenities and equipments that can be found on vehicles today. If there is one thing that stayed the same for the automobile, it is its same need for fuel for it to function, although fuels used nowadays have also undergone many changes.

With fuel still being the number one source of energy and power for any vehicle to move, the fuel tank continues to stay as a vital part of every vehicle. The fuel tank is that part of the engine system where the fuel is stored and released to the engine whenever needed. Fuel tanks for vehicles varies in size, shape and complexity, depending on the type of vehicle, its body structure, its engine position, the type of fuel to be used, the complexity of the engine system and others.

Fuel tanks of most current Ford vehicles are mounted on the same positionat the rear of the chassis under the trunk compartment. If, however, the engine is mounted on the rear area of the vehicle, the tank would usually be mounted on the forward compartment. As to the size, Ford fuel tanks vary depending on the type of vehicle for which they will be used. Smaller vehicles are usually equipped with smaller tanks while larger and fuel-eating vehicles would usually be equipped with larger fuel tanks. A special type of fuel tank, the auxiliary fuel tank, is also available on some Ford F-Series light trucks to enable the truck to store more fuel. These auxiliary Ford fuel tanks include an instrument panel-mounted switch that allows the driver to shift tanks whenever needed.

Most Ford fuel tanks are designed for the storage of unleaded gasoline, as most Ford vehicles require unleaded gasoline for the proper performance of the engines. But while this is true, Ford also manufactures fuel tanks that would work with their diesel engines that are manufactured for some markets outside the US. Different types of fuel tanks are also employed for the various Ford Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV), which are currently fueled by electricity, natural gas, propane, or flexible fuel. Natural gas powered vehicles in particular uses heavier, larger and highly pressurized fuel tanks to work better.

Just as there are a variety of Ford fuel tanks, there are also a variety of replacement fuel tanks that you can use on your vehicle. There are the genuine Ford fuel tanks that would fit perfectly on your Ford vehicle. Available also are large aftermarket fuel tanks that can increase the fuel capacity of your vehicle. There are also the various aftermarket auxiliary fuel tanks that one can install in addition to the regular fuel tanks installed on large and heavy duty Ford vehicles.
