Mazda Protege Catalytic Converter

It's a fact that a large number of people are in love with vehicles. Everywhere you go, you will see millions of cars on the road. But each one of them is potentially a source of air pollution, particularly in large cities, the amount of pollution that these cars produced together can create big problems. To solve this dilemma, cities, states and the federal government mandated clean-air laws and many laws have been enacted that control the amount of pollution these cars produced.

To keep up with these laws, carmakers have made many refinements to car engine and fuel systems. In a major effort to reduce auto emissions, they have developed an interesting device called a catalytic converter. The catalytic converter treats the exhaust before it leaves the vehicle and removes a lot of the pollution. But how do they perform their job to reduce pollution?

Here it goes. Most modern cars are equipped with three-way catalytic converters. Three-way refers to the three regulated emissions that help to reduce carbon monoxide, VOCs and nitrogen oxide molecules. The catalytic converter uses two different types of catalysts, a reduction catalyst and an oxidization catalyst. These two is comprised of a ceramic structure coated with a metal catalyst, usually platinum, rhodium and palladium. The thought is to create a structure that exposes the maximum surface area of the catalyst to the exhaust stream. While doing that, they also minimize the amount of catalyst required.

Over time, your Mazda Protg catalytic converter will start working poorly - maybe because it become clogged or it can be poisoned. When your Mazda Protg catalytic converters fail, they usually clog up with fragments and hinder the flow of exhaust gas from getting out of the system. This case causes tremendous performance problems and in extreme cases, it prevents your Mazda Protg from starting at all.

So it is very important to have a regular maintenance on your Mazda Protg catalytic converter. If it can still be repaired, then have it repaired. But if you detect that your Mazda Protg catalytic converter needs replacement, look for replacements right away. Start your search on the internet.
