Proper Installation of a Y Pipe
Setting up a Y pipe in your vehicle is an effective way of gaining better fuel mileage. The Y Pipe is able to increase the horsepower by improving the exhaust flow, and it also results into lower exhaust gas temperatures. That is why many car owners want this part installed in their vehicles. And in case the Y pipe gets damaged, it is recommended to replace it at once. The procedure does not involve very complicated steps, so it is not discouraging even to first-time DIYers. An hour or less would be enough for you to pull this task off.

Needed tools and materials
Preparing for the task
Check the Y Pipe that you are going to install in your vehicle. Make sure that it is polished before you put it in your vehicle. If it's not, sand it down just enough. Jack up your vehicle and secure its position with the proper support. Also, don't forget to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
Removing the nuts and bolts
Start with the front support bracket and unscrew the nuts on each bank of the old Y pipe. Remove the bolts from the rear of the Y pipe, too.
Uninstalling the old Y pipe
Remove the old Y pipe. The middle goose neck mount should be the last piece to be taken out.
Installing the new Y pipe
If you wish to change the gaskets as well, you may do so. Simply install the new gaskets on the new Y pipe. Position the Y pipe to the flanges afterwards. Put the middle goose neck mount first. Secure the new Y pipe with bolts.
Tips and warning
- If you're going to use a silicone sealing agent to prevent exhaust leaks, make sure that you don't overuse it. Apply just the enough amount.
- It is best to start your car after you're done with the installation, so you can check for leaks. Also, you might notice a strange smell when you run the engine. Don't worry, though. It will be gone after you've driven for a while.
