1989 Mercedes 420sel parking lights continue to stay on after turn off the light switch and the engine, why ?
One day my battery is very weak and cannot crank, I charged the battery for 2 hour and fired up the engine to drive around for 15 minutes at night. When I got home, turned off engine and turned the light switch in off position. But I noticed the front and rear parking lights continued
to stay on and there is no way these lights can be turned off. No wonder the battery got weak. Is there somewhere I can check to find out why it did that and may be a way to fix and correct this ?

Hi there,
If the parking lights on your 1989 Mercedes Benz 420SEL remain on after turning off the light switch and the engine, could be due to several potential reasons. Here are some causes & troubleshooting steps:
1. Defective switch. The possible number 1 cause is a bad switch. The internal contacts may have worn out already or have mechanical failure.
2. Stuck headlight relay. The headlight relay in the fuse box panel might be stuck in the "on" position causing the parking light to remain "on" even when the car is off already.
3. Wiring issue or short circuit. A possible short in the circuit disrupts the electricity to function properly. Check the wirings carefully.
4. Some older Mercedes Benz have a feature where the parking lights can be turned on even when the engine is off by moving the turn signal lever to the left or right. It is intended for use when parking on the side streets.
5. Faulty bulb light socket. A damaged (corrosion or other) or bad light socket of the turn signal bulb can cause the parking light bulb to stay on. Physically inspect the light bulb socket from the back of the headlight.
I hope these inputs help in any way. It is still best to consult your trusted auto repair shop or mechanic for thorough troubleshooting and repair.
