A 2006 Dodge Magnum with a 5.7L HEMI shutting off while driving and triggering the ESP/BAS light—especially when pressing the gas—typically points to an issue with one or more critical systems like the throttle body, crankshaft or camshaft position sensors, or even the electronic stability control system. The fact that it only happens under throttle suggests the engine may be losing its position signal, causing the PCM to shut it down and enter limp mode as a protective measure.
A faulty throttle position sensor (TPS), failing accelerator pedal position sensor (APPS), or a wiring issue in the throttle control circuit could be the root cause. The ESP/BAS light can also come on due to wheel speed sensor or steering angle sensor problems, which sometimes confuse the system during acceleration.
It's best to scan the vehicle for stored diagnostic trouble codes (even if the check engine light isn’t on) to pinpoint the failing component.
