During a Call, Use the “Private” Button / Toggle
While you’re already on a call via Bluetooth, look for a “Private” toggle or button on the call screen of your infotainment system — sometimes you can switch from Private Mode to use the car’s speakers. -
Check Bluetooth / Phone Audio Routing Settings on Your Phone
Sometimes your phone might be set to route calls only through the phone or “private” channel instead of car speakers by default. On iPhones, for example, there’s “Accessibility → Call Audio Routing” which might be set to something other than “Bluetooth.” Switching to “Bluetooth Headset” instead of “Automatic” may help. This workaround has been reported by other Kia owners. -
Forget & Re-Pair Your Phone
Delete the device from your car’s Bluetooth and from your phone’s paired devices list, then pair them again. During the pairing process, be sure to allow any prompts for permissions (contacts, call audio, etc.). Sometimes the “private mode” behavior is baked into how the device was paired or what permissions were granted. -
Check Infotainment / Bluetooth Settings in the Car
Dive into your “Phone” or “Bluetooth” settings via the car’s display. Look for options like “Call Audio / Hands-free / Phone Audio Output” or anything referencing Private Mode. There may be a toggle to disable Private Mode or set default behavior to “Car Speaker.” The 2022 Kia Soul manual mentions how calls are answered and the “Private” option appears during calls.
