Yes, they're likely connected. The VCM system is controlled by the PCM, so a failing PCM can absolutely cause VCM issues simultaneously since the PCM is what tells the system when to activate and deactivate cylinders.
That said, VCM problems are extremely common on their own on Honda Odysseys regardless of PCM health. They're known for oil consumption, misfires, fouled plugs, and premature engine mount wear caused by the cylinder deactivation system over time.
Best approach: Get the PCM properly diagnosed and addressed first, then reassess the VCM separately. A bad PCM can throw false VCM codes, so confirm you're actually dealing with two problems before spending money on both. Once repaired, many Odyssey owners install a VCM disabler to prevent the whole cycle from repeating. Hope this helps!
