On your 2006 Chevy Impala SS, slipping during acceleration most commonly points to transmission issues, but let's narrow it down. If the engine revs up but the car doesn't accelerate with it, that's classic transmission slip, and on the 3.8L or 5.3L Impala SS the first things to check are transmission fluid level and condition. Low, burnt, or dirty fluid is the #1 cause of slipping on these and is the cheapest first step: pull the dipstick and check it.
If fluid checks out, suspect a worn torque converter, failing pressure control solenoid, or worn clutch packs inside the transmission. The 4T65E transmission in the 3.8L version is known for slipping issues at higher mileage, particularly under hard acceleration. On the 5.3L SS with the 4L60E, a failing pressure control solenoid is extremely common and often causes slip before any major internal damage occurs, and it's a relatively affordable fix compared to a full rebuild.
Get the transmission scanned for codes first. It'll point you directly at the problem and save you from guessing. Hope this helps!
