Answer Question
2005 Lincoln LS sport V8 automatic trans. Battery light & Check charging system message came on.
While driving in -4F my battery light and my Check Charging System message came on. I replaced the alternator, Battery, serpentine Belt, belt tensioner & water pump. Took about 10 tries to get it started. Once the engine was running the battery light was off and my status messenger said charging system ok. Then about 3 minutes in, the battery light came back on and I had another check charging system message. It will shut off all those messages approx 3-5 minutes into running and then repeat this over and over. After about 30 minutes I shut the car off let it sit for about 5 minutes and then started the car up. It kept repeating this same thing over and over. I put a volt meter on the battery terminals while car was off. It was reading approx. 13.2. I started the car and the volts were reading approx. 14.0. While the engine was running I read the volts and it was approx. 14.0 even when the battery light went off and even when it came on. Also with the check charging system message present and while it was saying charging system ok. So I know that the alternator is charging my battery. I havent checked my alternator fuse yet. I would assume it would be ok since the alternator is charging the battery. I am really stumped at this point. Is it safe to drive it to a shop and put a code reader on it? Is it necessary to put a code reader on it? Could the alternator fuse be bad even if the altenator is charging the battery?
