Answer Question
Should my voltage be fluctuating with a new AGM battery and new alternator
I have a 2012 Chevy Tahoe and the battery finally needed to be replaced. I had an AGM battery in there, lasted just about 5 years. Replaced it with another AGM battery last month. I started noticing voltage fluctuations between about 12.7 to 14.3 volts - confirmed with my multimeter. Figured I must have a bad alternator. Likely the original alternator so I replaced it last week. Just today, I noticed again that the voltage started around 14.3 - then after driving for about 5 minutes, it dropped to around 12.7. Got home, parked it in the garage, and by time I hooked up multimeter to confirm it was low, it had kicked back up to 14v. I am reading posts that this may be normal charging with an AGM battery. Is that true? Or did I just get a bad alternator? I purchased one of the expensive ones (new, not remanufactured) from Autozone. Not OEM, though. The belt looks fine, I don't see it wobbling as if the tensioner were bad. Any insight would be much appreciated
