Tips to Examining a Newly Installed Toyota Tundra Body Lift Kit
The Toyota Tundra body lift kit is the simplest component that you can install to customize your vehicle. Lifting the car's bed up to three inches, it can make the Tundra look higher without having to modify its suspension in any way. However, installing the component is rigorous and requires you to go through a lot of components underneath your Tundra. This is why giving your vehicle a dynamic check-up afterwards is highly important. To make sure that you have everything covered, try these inspection tips.
Steering wheel binding problems
When you attempt to start the engine but the key won't turn, your steering wheel might be in a bind. This could be caused by a wrongly placed component while you were working on the steering shaft. To confirm this diagnosis, disconnect the steering shaft again like you did while installing the body lift kit. Check if all components and hardware are in place and rearrange any parts in the wrong position back to their proper locations. After reconnecting the shaft, try to turn the key again. If it still doesn't work, turn the steering wheel left and right while trying to start the ignition. You have to get the strain out of the wheel in order for the key to turn.
Faulty clutch, brake system, or parking brake
Inspect the flywheel and the pressure plate if either has been damaged while you were installing the body lift. If you see that the springs on the pressure plates are loose, replace them. On the other hand, if the flywheel itself is the problem, then you will have to get it serviced by a professional.
While under the vehicle, it's also a good time to examine the brake system. Look out for contaminated brake fluid, bad brake power boost unit, vacuum problems, and other common complications. If you didn't find anything through visual inspection, be wary of the brake pedal as it might be too firm or it might go too far down. Watch out for weak and spongy brakes as well.
It's also important to look at the emergency/parking brake. If it cannot hold the vehicle, then it must have been improperly placed when you were installing the body lift kit. To correct this problem, apply and release the component 10 to 15 times to activate its self-adjusting function.
Other components to inspect
Aside from the steering wheel, clutch, and brakes, also make sure to check all gears and 4WD ranges for full engagement. You should also go through the battery connections and other electrical component operations to ensure that they're all connected properly. Once you're satisfied, test drive your Tundra to check if your body lift kit is properly installed and that no other component has been damaged.
