The problem you describe could be caused by a loose or damaged connection in the headlight circuit. When you hit a bump, the vibration may cause the connection to temporarily disconnect, causing the headlight to turn off. Tapping the headlight may realign the connection and restore power, but the issue will likely recur if left unrepaired.
I recommend having a qualified mechanic inspect the headlight circuit and make any necessary repairs. They will be able to diagnose the issue and make the necessary repairs to ensure that your headlight stays on consistently while driving.

Sounds like could just be a bad connection. Maybe follow the wires and see if there's some crack spots in them

It could be a loose connecter to the back of your headlamp bulb, a loose ground, or popossibly a damaged bulb.

Bad headlight connection, loose bulb, get some electrical cleaner and spray the connector that connects to the bulb and the lightbulb connectors themselves before checking into getting new wiring and connectors.
